If I can give you one piece of advice about visiting the Portobello Road Market, it would be to go early on Saturday morning, unlike Riaan and I. We only decided at about midday that we were going to go, and man oh man was it hot!! Also, rumour has it that if you go early you might find yourself rummaging through the antiques and vintages with the likes of Kate Moss and Sienna Miller. Either way, you’re bound to see some interesting people.
We hopped off the tube at Notting Hill Gate and stepped out into the humid afternoon sunshine, made our way to the bottom of Portobello Road, and so it began. We stopped off at every little shop or stall that caught our eye. The great thing about Portobello Road Market is that it has something for everyone.
The shops at the bottom of the road have a bit of a Camden market feel to them, with affordable boutique-like clothing stores and souvenier shops.
A little way down the road we found a Scottish Shop that had the most adorable little kilts and booties, haha, one day I will dress our kids up in the cutest little outfits!!
When you get to the famous colourful houses you know that you are officially in the market, this is where the antiques section begins.
After the antiques the road fills up with stall after stall filled with with various trinkets, some old, some new, some new but claiming to be vintage, eh like I said, something for everyone!
We also found the most awesome Hogwarts crates! They made my little inner nerd child smile.
After the trinkets comes my favourite part, the food stalls!! Market food is the awesome, there is always a huge variety and its jam packed with flavour!
Fresh coconut water anyone??
I haven’t tried coconut water yet and was not feeling that adventurous so I skipped the coconuts and tried out a new juice instead, and it’s a definite winner! New favourite right here!!
Since you’re in the area, it’s definitely worth it to do a little explore. We wandered through the streets of Notting Hill, admiring the pretty houses and the old cars building up a hefty appetite along the way.
When the hunger eventually got the better of us we hopped on a bus and made off into the night to find ourselves some dinner!
